As expressed by David Bedford, Race Director,
London was the first marathon to understand the benefits of integrating runners of all abilities. It's produced not just elite fields that can match anything seen at the Olympic Games, but a great carnival of colour and sound that delights the runners, the crowds and the millions who catch it on TV. Rival organizers come to London and are amazed by the atmosphere, the charity support teams, the joy and the emotion generated by thousands who run for charitable causes. The London Marathon in 2010 raised for charity more than £50m, and it has raised more than £500m during the 30 years the race has been run.
The book covers the 2001 through 2010 marathons (1396 pages), and a page introducing the race precedes the names of the runners for that year. That page also gives the names of the top male runners, the top female runners, and the top wheelchair entrants. The names (in alphabetical order) and times of the male runners, the female runners, and the wheelchair entrants who completed the marathon are then given. Photographs of runners are scattered throughout each year. The introductions to each year are written by John Bryant.
